John Travolta shows off private customised Boeing Business Jet

John Travolta took to the skies on Jay Leno’s Garage to show off his Boeing Business Jet. Boeing’s premiere private jet retails for $57 million (£45.5 million) when new, plus an additional $20 million to $25 million (£16 million to £20 million) for the interior design and installation. Travolta has had his pilot license for 45 years and a jet license for 20. He is such an avid flier that his house is attached to a runway, so he can literally park his jets in the driveway. Jay Leno was so impressed that he called Travolta a “hero.” Read more here

Private Jet Tipping Etiquette

Tipping a taxi, town car or Uber driver is pretty standard in most parts of the world, although how much varies widely. If you charter a yacht, you are expected to tip the crew, something that can run over $10,000 depending on the price of your rental. You likely tip the valet at a restaurant as you do the waiters and waitresses. In some places, if you leave a negligible tip, they might follow you to find out what you were unhappy about. World’s First Commercial Airline & the Greatest Moments in Flight

from https://www.space.com/16657-worlds-first-commercial-airline-the-greatest-moments-in-flight.html On Jan. 1, 1914, the world’s first scheduled passenger airline service took off, operating between St. Petersburg and Tampa, Fla. The St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line was a short-lived endeavor — only four months — but it paved the way for today’s daily transcontinental flights. The first flight’s pilot was Tony Jannus, an experienced test pilot and barnstormer. The first paying passenger was Abaram C. Pheil, former mayor of St. Petersburg. Their 21-mile (34-kilometer) flight across the bay to Tampa took 23 minutes. They flew in a “flying boat” designed by Thomas Benoist (pronounced ben-wah), an aviation entrepreneur from […]

13 Of The Strangest Aircraft That Actually Flew

From https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/g1420/17-bizarre-aircraft-we-love-and-the-stories-behind-them/ Alexander Lippisch’s Aerodyne To look at Alexander Lippisch’s Aerodyne is to be baffled at how engineers managed to get such a crazy thing off the ground. And it’s far from alone in the gallery of bizarrely shaped aircraft we’ve seen over the years. From balance-driven helicopters to inflatable airplanes, even a cursory tour through the history of aviation reveals some strange beasts that look little like the jet shape we’re all accustomed to. You have to wonder, why do aircraft designers keep building such far-out flying machines? We asked Dan Hagedorn, the curator of Seattle’s Museum of Flight, who […]
