Top Thessaloniki Attractions

The city enjoys an illustrious history and every guest should take the opportunity to visit the ruins of Thessaloniki’s ancient Greek agora (a gathering place)and Roman forum. This remarkable archaeological site, with ruins dating from the second century AD is particularly beautiful when viewed at sunset.

Another historic must-see, and perhaps Thessaloniki’s most famous landmark, is the White Tower. This iconic monument beside the city’s waterfront, most likely dates from the sixteenth century and was used by the ruling Ottomans as a fortress, a garrison for soldiers and a place of imprisonment and torture.

Thessaloniki hosts a number of traditional markets within the Bezesteni. Built in the fifteenth century by Sultan Bayezid II this remarkably-preserved covered market building is recognizable by its six domes. The shops within specialize in textiles, clothing, leather goods and jewellery.

Thessaloniki’s shopping district and it is here and in the surrounding streets that you will be able to find well-known department stores, supermarkets and designer outlets along with local shops, cafes and restaurants.
